Can you regain your virginity? Know all about it
There
is no denying that there are a shocking number of myths and
misconceptions surrounding the female virginity. In fact, it is not only
men who are misinformed about the female delicate bits but those with a
vagina don’t have a lot of knowledge about it either. Hence, it comes as
no surprise that we aren’t exactly enlightened when it comes to the
thin, fleshy tissue that stretches across the opening of the vagina. It
is known as the hymen and it is a small, circular piece of tissue that
partially covers the vaginal opening.
The link between hymen and virginity
The
common notion is that hymen breaks during the first vaginal penetration
and a lot of people also associate “breaking of hymen” with the “loss
of virginity”. However, this is not always the case. This thin tissue
can wear down due to a variety of factors besides sexual intercourse
including riding a bicycle, doing gymnastics, using a tampon and
insertive masturbation. It is also important to understand that some
women are even born without a hymen in the first place.
Does hymen determine your virginity?
It is important to understand that there
aren’t always obvious physical signs of the loss of virginity when a
woman has sex for the very first time. The presence or lack of your
hymen has nothing to do with your virginity as it usually thins over
time and may not stretch during your first sexual intercourse. Moreover,
there is no medical concept of virginity and here are no medical tests
available which can confirm your virginity.
Can you regain your virginity?
Since
in some cultures, sexual abstinence before marriage is important, some
women place a lot of importance on bleeding during the “first night”
after marriage. Hence, they are often on a quest of repairing or
regeneration of the hymen. There is a procedure known as hymenoplasty
which involves suturing the remains of the original hymen. It is also
used to create a new hymen without leaving any visible trace that the
person has had the procedure. This surgery is often performed under
local anaesthesia. As it grafts together, the stretched hymen will
appear intact.
Recovery after hymenoplasty
Since it is not a major surgery, most
patients recover within a week. You can resume work after 3 to 4 days
but it strongly advised to refrain from physical activities for at least
two weeks. You need to refrain from sex until 8 weeks after the surge
Remember:
While
there is no dearth of home remedies present on the internet that claim
to regrow or regain your virginity, it is important to understand that
none of them provide the correct information. There is no way your hymen
will grow back on its own if it has been stretched during any physical
activity or if you are born without one.
