Strawberry is the best for diabetics, study claims
Diabetes patients have to take great care of their diet. In fact, these are people who are always advised to stay away from sweet fruits. However, according to a study, there is also a fruit that contains necessary vitamins and is a better option for diabetics. In a study published in the journal Food and Function, strawberries have been described as such a superfood that not only controls blood sugar but also suppresses the desire to eat sweets.
The researchers conducted a study on the effect of strawberry intake on blood sugar levels. The study involved more than 14 people who were overweight and asked these participants to drink strawberry drinks at three different intervals. At the same time, the study found that people who drank strawberry juice two hours before eating had significantly lower blood sugar levels than those who took it with food. In addition, the researchers say that this fruit improves insulin signals, taking glucose out of the blood into the cells, where it turns into energy.
Research has also found that women who did not eat strawberries had a very high A1C (haemoglobin A-1C test is done to check blood sugar) and their risk of developing diabetes was also more than 10%. On the other hand, the possibility of this was much less seen in those who ate good amounts of strawberries at least twice every week. Not only this, according to the study, eating 2 or more cups of strawberries every week can reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes in women by up to 10%. By the way, strawberry is rich in antioxidants and has many benefits for diabetic patients, although its quantity and time need to be taken care of. In fact, according to experts, diabetes patients should have 4-5 strawberries for breakfast and the same amount in the evening breakfast.
