Foods you must eat to maintain your digestive health
Weddings in India are mostly grand affairs. The elaborate three-day ceremonies, decking up in the best colourful attire, dancing on beats of dhol (drum) and a platter full of mouth-watering delicacies. But when you have to attend weddings in a row then it might be a little taxing for you in more than one way. Your digestive health would be the first thing to bother you, all thanks to the greasy and spice loaded food. So, it is best to take care of your digestive system beforehand to stay in the pink of your health during the Shaadi season.
Celebrity Nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar recently took to her Instagram handle to share some tips to maintain your digestive health, while enjoying the delicious treat this festive season. Here are the top 3 foods she recommends to have daily.
Methi ladoo
Ladoos are a winter special and if you have methi ladoo you can reap two benefits in one time. Made with methi (fenugreek) seeds, jaggery, ghee and dry ginger, this Indian sweet can prevent stomach cramps and constipation and promotes intestinal mucosa. It can even help to improve the condition of your hair which can otherwise look frizzy due to poor stomach health. Besides, having it in winter can help to build your immunity and prevent you from getting colds and flu. Rujuta suggests having methi ladoo either for breakfast or as a 4-6 pm snack.
Chaas or buttermilk
Many
wonder if it's okay to have curd in winter. There is a misconception
that can lead to mucus build-up and cold. But if you drink it in the
daytime and at normal temperature then it would harm you. A glass of
chaas with some hing (Asafoetida) and kalanamak (Black salt) after lunch
can help in easy digestion of good. Have buttermilk, especially if you
are attending an evening function. The drink is a good source of
probiotics and Vitamin B12. Moreover, adding Asafoetida and black salt
can help to cut down bloating, gas and even prevent Irritable bowel
syndrome (IBS).
Chyawanprash
Chyawanprash is another winter food that you must have late at night with milk to promote your digestive health. Rich in vitamin C, protein and dietary fiber, a tablespoon of Chyawanprash at night can keep your stomach healthy and keep your skin soft and supple. The flavonoid and antioxidants in it can also boost immune health and prevent you from falling ill.
Other things that you can do
If you eat healthy all around the year, you do not need to worry about eating out during weddings.
Do not skip your meal: When you have to go out, do not skip your meal. Skipping a meal can make you eat more in the evening, leaving you to feel bloated and uncomfortable.
Eating before stepping out: To limit your food intake at the wedding, have something light before stepping out. A bowl of curd rice or yoghurt and nuts before stepping out.
