Things your face reveals about your health

Things your face reveals about your health

Your face is the only part of your body you see or check or even maintain many times a day. Humans predominantly consider the face for determining the foremost judgment of another person as it is the face that narrates the entire story of the body. The face looks pretty exhausted or dejected whenever a person is ill or depressed. While in contrast it’s the face that appears content and glowing in the happy times. Hence here are some other different considerable factors that tell about your health condition:

Yellow face and eyes

This is an acute symptom of jaundice. The face and eyes look yellow due to accumulation of a lot of waste products in your body and rupture of red blood cells as well. Many other serious health problems can be accompanied by jaundice such as viral infections (hepatitis, mononucleosis), liver, gallbladder, or pancreas disorders, or liver cirrhosis.

Facial hair loss

It could be an indication of alopecia areata if you're losing your eyelashes or eyebrows, as well as patches of your hair. It is due to your immune system which targets your hair follicles and hence such hair loss patches appear on your face. There's no way to stop this condition but the prescribed medicines or tonics can help the regeneration of the hair follicles.

Puffy eyes

Generally due to the fluid in the region beneath your eyes that gives a puffy or swollen appearance. Below are some reasons causing puffiness of eyes:

  • Incomplete sleep.
  • Excessive salt intake.
  • Hormonal changes.
  • Hot and humid climate.
  • Old age, since the muscles that support your eyelids weaken with age.
  • Allergic reaction.
  • Makeup.
  • Soap or cleansers
  • Fragrances.

Improper facial hair growth

How irritating it is to find stray hair growing where you don't want it to, sadly, this can be seen in men around the ears and eyebrows or around the chin in ladies. This condition isn’t that severe but in certain cases it can be an indication or symptom of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) in women.

Dry and bleeding lips

Chapped or dry lips are prevalent especially during the winters. Petroleum jelly, coconut oil or balms can aid to protect and moisturise them. It is also seen in certain health issues such as dehydration, allergy or reaction to a medicine, such as steroids.

Moles

Moles ain’t a cause to worry, they can be birthmarks or harmless ones. However, if you find something really abnormal going on with them with regard to their colour, shape, size or sensation, you definitely need to consult a doctor, as it can be a considerable sign for cancer.

Blisters

Blister or cold sores are produced by the herpes simplex type 1 virus. While oral herpes are the most common type, spread through saliva or body fluid. It is an infectious disease that stays inactive inside the human body throughout its lifetime. The virus gets active and develops symptoms like sores when a person is depressed, sick, or tired.

Ptosis or droopy eyelids

Ptosis or blepharoptosis, which limits vision, may have been present since birth and is usually innocuous, but it could indicate a problem with your brain, nerves, or eye socket. Consult a doctor if it is accompanied by weak muscles, trouble swallowing, a severe headache, or a double vision.

Bumps on eyelids

Xanthelasma are a yellow bumpy figure that appears on and around the upper and lower eyelids. They're made of cholesterol and are neither harmful or painful, and they can typically be removed. They at times could also indicate heart disease or a risk of heart attack in a person.

Melasma

Melasma are gray-brown skin spots on your face. They are prevalent or triggered by hormonal change during the pregnancy or during the use of certain birth control medications. They usually fade on their own in the post pregnancy period or when the lady stops taking the medications in these circumstances.
