Nutritionist-approved early morning drinks for a healthy gut
Try these concoctions
What's your morning ritual like? Are you one of those who loves to have a warm cup of coffee or just believe in jump-starting the day with a filling breakfast? If you belong to any of the two categories, then you seriously need to re-evaluate your morning habit.
When we wake up in the morning, our metabolism is generally slow, the pH level of the stomach is high and we are mostly dehydrated. Having a heavy meal or caffeine on an empty can make the condition worse. As per Wellness and Lifestyle coach Luke Coutinho, after 12 hours overnight fast, our stomach and gut become soft like a sponge. At that time of the day, it can absorb more nutrients, hence you need to give it something healthy to start the day with. Luke suggested 7 concoctions that one should have early morning on an empty stomach for a healthy digestive system.
Concoction 1: Fresh wheatgrass or organic wheatgrass powder
Taking fresh wheatgrass juice on an empty stomach has numerous potent benefits. It can help in losing weight, treats skin ailments, reduces food cravings, detoxes your cells, improves immunity, stimulates circulation, reduces fatigue, treats arthritis and improves digestion. If you are not able to find fresh wheatgrass, then you can use organic wheatgrass powder. Both work in a similar way.
Concoction 2: Lemon water
A glass of warm water and 2 tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon juice is all you need to refresh your morning. The vitamin C content in the lemon can help to boost your immunity, maintain the pH level of the body and flush out toxins from the system. The citric acid keeps digestive problems at bay and interacts with the other enzymes in the stomach and stimulates the secretion of gastric juices.
Concoction 3: Warm lemon water with ginger and raw honey
If
you want to make your morning drink more flavourful, then add ginger
and honey to your warm lemon water. Sipping this warm beverage every
morning is an effective way to strengthen your digestive system and
prevent indigestion, nausea, and heartburn. This drink helps to boost
immunity, makes your skin supple and soothes your throat, all of which
are common health concerns during the winter season. First, boil the
water with ginger, strain it and let it cool for a while. After this add
1 tablespoon of lemon juice and honey in it and enjoy the drink.
Concoction 4: Lemon water with ginger, cinnamon, turmeric, black pepper and raw honey
Herbs
and spices have a special place in the Indian diet as well as Ayurveda
due to their potential health benefits. Cinnamon, black pepper, ginger
and turmeric root, when boiled together, make an incredibly healthy gut
and stomach tea. Add lemon juice and honey in the tea after cooling it a
bit. This early morning tea can even boost your immunity and keep you
away from cold and flu in winters.
Concoction 5: ACV, lemon, ginger, garlic, raw honey and cinnamon drink
Apple
Cider Vinegar (ACV) has a wide range of health benefits and to stay
healthy it must be a part of your diet. Having ACV concoction on an
empty stomach can help to prevent gas and bloating. Besides, it can also
help to kill bacteria in the stomach or intestines. Take a bowl and add
1 tbs each of ACV, garlic juice, ginger juice, lemon juice, honey and a
pinch of cinnamon in it. Mix the tonic well and drink it.
Concoction 6: Warm water with tulsi drops
Water
with tulsi drops or tulsi tea is one of the best drinks that you can
have on a cold winter morning. Tulsi, also known as holy basil, can
promote digestion by assisting in the secretion of digestive enzymes.
This tea is also good to control blood sugar level, manage skin issues
and strengthen your internal defence system. You can also add a
tablespoon of honey in your drink to make it taste better.
Concoction 7: Thyme, ginger, peppercorn, turmeric
The thyme and peppercorn concoction is excellent for those dealing with the problem of mucus buildup. Excess mucus buildup can block your sinus cavity, leading to a bacterial or viral infection. Drinking this beverage early in the morning can help to clear the nasal passage. All you need to do is add 1 tablespoon of thyme with 1 peppercorn, grated ginger and turmeric root (you can also use turmeric powder) in some water and boil it for 10 minutes. Strain the concoction and enjoy the drink.
The takeaway
What
you have first thing in the morning is very crucial for your internal
system. If you start your day with coffee and tea, you might be dealing
with some stomach related issues later in the day. You need to be
careful about your choices. If you want to keep it simple then just
drink a tall glass of warm water.
