Those who really want to lose weight, but by following a practical and healty diet, read this lady's diet
I know how difficult it is to lose weight, putting on happens so fast before we realise it. Once I was put on crash diet, I lost weight, but got so sick after that, hubby said forget about all that. Sadly, partly genetic, then thyroid cancer, due to COPD, on and off on steroids, well about 6 years ago for 18 months on steroids, which made me put on a lot of weight. But after reading this lady's weight loss program, want to follow it, though walking for sometime will be difficult, as my left knee is troubling and painful, as I had my right knee total replacement 10 years ago. Now, trying to heal myself with Reiki, pain is slowly reducing, as hubby says, only when no pain, I'll allow you to have your evening walk ! But inside the house, on my feet most of the time.
Below is that lady's weight loss story.
I lost over 18 kilos by walking for 45 minutes daily!
Weight gain takes one of the biggest digs at your appearance. Jokes and fat-shaming can also impact one's self-esteem. One such incident faced by Ashni Kothari forced her to turn over a new leaf, lose weight and be healthier for herself. In a matter of months, she lost nearly 20 kilos and gained her self-confidence back. To know she did it, read her inspiring weight loss journey below:
Name: Mrs. Kothari
Occupation: School teacher
Age: 34 years
Height: 5 feet 3 inches
Highest weight recorded: 73 kilos
Weight lost: 18-19 kilos
Duration it took me to lose weight: 6 months.
The turning point
I have always believed in living life to the fullest and loved indulging in junk foods like pizzas, pasta, burgers. I didn't even worry about weight gain unless it hit me really badly once. One day, I couldn't fit into my clothes, and one of my closest friends mocked me for it. I was so disappointed with myself that day. So, I accepted a friendly challenge and decided to set a goal and make things happen. I started by following a strict diet and walking every day for 45 minutes. So glad I did that!
Diet
My breakfast: A cup of green tea, followed by something simple like poha/upma/ idli/ paneer sandwich or daliya khichdi.
My lunch: 2 wheat-bran chapatis with a bowl of sabzi, a bowl of curd or dal. I also include a salad with my meals.
My dinner: Usually something light like a soup/oats upma/besan pudla.
I sometimes also have a veggie parantha with a bowl of curd.
Pre-workout meal: Anyone fruit and soaked almonds(3-4 in number)
Post-workout meal: A cup of green tea/ protein shake/ makhanas, depending on my mood. I treat myself to chocolates and pani puri on my cheat day, which is once a week.
Low-calorie recipes I swear by: Palak panner or oats upma.
My workout
I don't go to the gym. I walk every day for 45 minutes, followed by 15 minutes of core exercise.
Fitness secrets I unveiled: Weight loss always involves a healthy balance of diet and exercise, 80:20 ratio I believe. One should also focus on staying hydrated and sleeping well. Simple lifestyle changes will make way for a healthier body.
How do I stay motivated?
You have to surround yourself with motivation. I read a lot of positive affirmations and quotes and make promises to myself.
I also experiment with my food, so my diet doesn't become boring! Apart from that, the happiest part I feel is when I think about being able to fit into my clothes again!
How do you ensure you don’t lose focus? Positive people exude positive vibes. I only surround myself with positive people now. I would like to give special thanks to my mom and my husband who motivated me through this journey.
What’s the most difficult part of being overweight? I used to feel very lethargic and tired after work and ended up sleeping for 3-4 hours every evening. Tiredness is no longer there.
What shape do you see yourself 10 years down the line?
I always aspired to have a slim figure with curves, which, thankfully I have now.
The best part are the compliments. I look younger than my actual age. I am also a lot more fitter, wiser and healthier now.
What are the lifestyle changes you made? I have started getting up early. Trust me, it makes so much difference. I wake up early in the morning, around 6 am, do my workout and get going. I also eliminated sugar, sweets and maida (refined flour) from my diet.
What was the lowest point for you? The lowest point for me was when I couldn't wear shorts like other girls. I felt super guilty and disappointed in myself. I made the decision to work on myself and am proud of my body now.
Lessons learnt from weight loss
I believe weight loss isn't just about the looks, but it also teaches you a lot of life lessons. Here are some that I learnt:
1. Weight loss doesn't happen overnight, you have to be focussed and set a goal for yourself.
2. Water is important and it's important to keep yourself hydrated through the journey.
3. Weight loss taught me patience. I have become much calmer than before, and for me, this will be my biggest achievement.
