4 fruits that type 2 diabetics should stay away from

Diabetics and the fruits they shouldn't eat

A big number of Indian population is suffering from diabetes. And it is a known fact that diabetics need to take care of their diet to prevent spikes in blood sugar levels. While they are always mentally calculating whether to eat something or not, a new research has shown that there are four fruits, which diabetics, especially Type 2 diabetics should be careful about. Let’s take a look

Mango, pineapple, melon and bananas

Regulated diet is the biggest factor for diabetics in preventing the sugar in the body from creating a riot. According to the weight loss doctor Dr Michael Mosley, the fruits that Type 2 diabetics should avoid are mango, pineapple, melon and bananas. These fruits are full of sugar.

Fruits you can eat

While the four fruits may be forbidden, let’s discuss the fruits that are safe for diabetics. The list includes

Cherries

Peaches

Apricots

Apples

Oranges

Pears

Kiwi

Watch your carb intake

Apart from fruits that are rich in sugar, it is also important to monitor your carbohydrate intake. All the carbs get converted into sugar inside the body, which is exactly what you don’t want to happen.

Link between sugar and insulin

If intake of certain foods in the body is high, there can be a lingering threat of sugar spikes because their body doesn't produce enough insulin or their insulin is absorbed by the cells. For the unversed, insulin is produced by the pancreas to keep the blood sugar levels in healthy limits. When this function is impacted, the blood sugar levels can create havoc and start to affect other body parts.

Diet and workout for diabetes management

Last but not the least, diabetics should focus on a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables. They should also watch their protein intake and ensure that they clock in some level of exercise everyday - it could be as basic as walking to even HIIT workouts.
