Medicinal properties of neem juice: How to make and use this home remedy to fight dengue fever

Neem juice, extracted from the leaves of the neem plant, has been linked to a plethora of health benefits. In fact, the neem plant, known scientifically as Azadirachta indica, has played a significant role in traditional Indian medicine, including Ayurveda, since ages. Neem juice is one of the most common natural remedies used to treat a variety of ailments such as dengue fever.

Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne viral infection that causes a flu-like illness, but of course with far worse possible complications and problems. There is no specific treatment for dengue but certain medicines such as painkillers, drinking plenty of fluids, and getting adequate rest can help ease the fever and other symptoms. There are many natural home remedies - such as neem leaves and papaya - that can help treat or relieve the symptoms of dengue.

Medicinal properties of neem juice and leaves

It is claimed that consuming neem juice can help increase both - the blood platelet count and the white blood cell (fighter cell) count in people suffering from dengue. Neem juice can also help the body fight against various infections. Neem is a powerful immune-boosting herb that’s been used to treat several health conditions. The herb is also used in many hair and skincare products. Neem plant contains strong antioxidants that can neutralise free radicals that may influence the development of some conditions. Neem also has antimicrobial effects and may help protect against several types of bacteria, viruses, and fungi.

Apart from fever, neem leaf is used for treating leprosy, stomach upset, appetite loss, eye disorders, skin ulcers, gum disease, diabetes, liver problems, cardiovascular disease, as per doctors. The bark is also used to treat malaria, stomach and intestinal ulcers, skin diseases and fever. Neem is also used as an insecticide.

How to make and use neem juice for dengue fever

Preparing this home remedy is very simple. To make neem juice-

  • Take a handful of fresh neem leaves and wash them thoroughly under running water.
  • Put neem leaves in a blender and add 1 cup of water to it.
  • Process the ingredients until the mixture looks smooth.
  • Strain the juice using a clean muslin cloth.
  • You can also add a dash of honey and lemon juice to make your drink of neem juice more palatable (optional).
  • Serve immediately.
