Can rice water help you lose weight or manage diabetes? Here are some ways to use it

Apart from being in constant touch with a doctor, nutritionist, or an expert on the subject, it is equally important to follow the tips and suggestions they give you, if you are trying to be healthy. While medication is an important part of managing your health conditions such as obesity and diabetes, it is also important to focus on your diet, and lifestyle. However, certain home remedies have also worked wonders for people, and can help accelerate the process of getting healthy, and at the same time, may also help reduce dependence on medication.

One such home remedy is rice water. A lot of people use this home remedy for healthy skin and a healthy body. Here are some ways in which you can use rice water, and an understanding of how exactly can the home remedy help in weight and diabetes management.

Can rice water help you lose weight?

  1. Energy booster - One of the most common reasons why rice water became a staple in most Indian households is because it is considered very vital for energy-boosting. Rice water can, therefore, help in keeping your energy levels up, as you try to sweat it out in the gym, or at home now, given how one is required to practice social distancing during the pandemic. Rice water can be consumed as a pre-workout drink, to give you ample energy to workout for weight loss.
  2. Hydration - Another way that rice water can help with weight loss is by keeping you hydrated. Staying hydrated, especially with nutritious drinks, if not water, is very important to lose weight. Hydration plays a key role in keeping all your body systems working well, which play a role in helping you lose weight.
  3. Boosts digestion - Digestion is a very important factor for weight loss. Even if you follow a healthy diet for weight loss, it may not be effective if you are constantly constipated or have a bad digestion. Rice water can help in boosting digestion, and also help you avoid digestive troubles such as diarrhoea.

Is rice water fit for diabetics?

Well, no. Since rice water is mostly the starch component of rice, which means it is directly carbs and sugar that you are providing the body, rice water may not be fit for diabetics. In fact, white rice, in any form, be it cooked rice, rice milk, or rice water is not preferred for diabetics.

It is recommended that diabetics watch their sugar intake, both in the form of natural sugar such as starch, and added sugar. Diabetics should not consume rice water regularly, as it can spike their blood sugar levels and cause complications.
