Statins may prolong life of people suffering from diabetes
This is going to be a great news for millions of people across
the world. a latest report says that statins may prolong life of people
suffering from diabetes
A latest research has found that Cholesterol-lowering statins may prove to be of immense help for many people.
The report says that it is expected to add several years to lives of people suffering from diabetic cardiovascular disease.
The latest report has been compiled by researchers associated with Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Heart, kidney and eyes are three most important parts of the body that are affected by diabetes in many ways. Many people lose their eyesight by sudden rise in sugar level.
A comprehensive report published sometimes ago by the American Heart Association claimed that as many as 65 per cent of people suffering from diabetes die either by heart disease or stroke.
Researchers are very excited about the path breaking report. Don Bowden, professor of biochemistry at Wake Forest Baptist says, “Although our study was not a clinical trial, it did show that people with diabetes and heart disease can still live quite a few years by taking statins”.
When the study began, people who consented to be the part of this research were given a CT scan to understand the level of coronary artery calcium (CAC). Researchers clearly told the participants that any CAC score higher than 1,000 means higher threat for cardiovascular disease (CVD). Then the researchers who were part of the study compared the baseline characteristics of 153 patients who died during an average 8.2 years of follow-up and 218 who survived. They thought that risk for death would be high among the study participants. But to their amazement they discovered that 60 per cent people were still alive after more than eight years
