Woman's breast implant causes her cancer

Adele Jenner, a mother of three, diagnosed with a new form of cancer connected to breast implants, is the first patient to speak out in this new cancer scandal.

According to Adele, the surgeons overlooked the cautioning signs after she sought help.

Adele, who is just 39 years old, living in Waterlooville, Hampshire, underwent breast enhancement surgery in 2002. She decided to go for the surgery, three years after her second child, Cameron was born.

Adele breastfed her children that caused some changes to her figure making her unhappy. 'My breasts had lost their fullness and I longed for my figure to return to normal,' she says. The breast implant surgery took her from a 34B to 34D.

Adele intensely repents her decision of going for the surgery. She has undergone chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

According to the researchers, medical cases of the implants-connected cancer, called anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL), have increased suddenly since the first case was reported in 1997. It has been reported earlier this month that more than 150 patients have been diagnosed with ALCL.

Cosmetic Surgeons though still say that this cancer is 'extremely rare'. There have been surgeries to remove and substitute the infected implants, and in very small number of cases, chemotherapy or radiotherapy was required.

However, some patients suffered with a more intrusive form of disease, with tumors in the breast and elsewhere. It carries a five per cent fatality rate as three women are said to have died because of it.
