Survivors' stories
A real gutsy lady, who defied cancer many times
This is the story of a lady who was diagnosed with bone cancer at the age of 11. Her father simply told her that her leg will be amputated to save her life while she was admitted to the hospital. There, once he left the room, she cried to her heart's content. But they gave her radiation, waited to see before doing amputation. Then after a year, she was diagnosed with lung mets. It was then her mother took to her to a religious place in France, met Pope, had a "holy bath", it was the place where sick from all over the world congregate in the hope of finding miracle. Miracle indeed she had, as later the Drs. found calcium deposits both in her ankle & lung, which they said is rare, but does happen. Later when her cancer spread, it was decided to amputate her leg above the knee. She was still in school then. She learnt to walk with her crutches first, then with her artificial leg, with her dad forcing her to do all the things a normal person would do, skating, skiing, dancing & so on. She graduated, did her PG, PhD, did social service & counseling. She feared that she may not have children, if she has, she was told they may not be normal, due to her radiation. But, she did have 3 kids, all normal & are now adults !! She is now in her 50s, still going strong with her counseling work.
Some words wich really inspired me - like to go on in life, one needs passion, which at times needs to be nurtured, which is one thing I've always strongly advocated, nurture your passions.Remember that our life has a purpose, so try to realise it. None of us know when we're destined to die, so make the most of each day doing something that will make you happy. As when we're committed to something, then it helps us to carry on with our life with a smile, as sharing our knowledge with others, lending a helping hand to a needy, makes us feel wanted, makes our life worthwhile to live, don't you all think so?Life is a learning process, for me as long as I live, I want to learn & also share that wee bit of knowledge with others,as for me knowledge has to be shared with all around us.
Survivor's story - " Where there is a will, there is always a way "
There is this lady, who when she was young wanted to do medicine, but couldn't. Becomes a professional, having accumulated various degrees. Then cancer catches up with her. Then she gets a pet as she always loved animals. With a dog now, she decides to get herself qualified as a vet. which she managed to do after her cancer surgery & radiation treatment.Isn't that simply great? This goes to prove that cancer need not be a hurdle to do want we want to do, we need just the will to do it.
