Stomach cancer: Madurai Apollo Hospital alerts people with SMS symptoms of this ‘Silent Killer’ like heartburn, gastritis, indigestion etc as warning signs
The silent threat of increasing number of stomach cancer cases was explained for the benefit of general public by the gastro and oncology teams of Apollo Speciality Hospitals in Madurai at a press meet organized in Madurai today-November 21st 2025.
Apollo Cancer Centres in Madurai today launched ‘Save My Stomach’ (SMS) early detection program for stomach cancer as an initiative for timely screening, accurate diagnosis and improve the survival outcomes because stomach cancer is a ‘silent killer’ and the noticeable symptoms usually show only in its advanced stages of this cancer.
“Our SMS idea is for early detection of particularly men over 60 years age. Chronic gastritis, obesity, smoking, long-term gastritis with symtoms like persistent heartburn, indigestion and unexplained bloating shoud never be ignored. These are the warning signs and so the Apollo Cancer Centres from Madurai is launching ‘Save My Stomach’ campaign for timely screening. A simple endoscopy can detect stomach cancer at a curable stage when treatment is minimally invasive and survival rates are higher,” the medical oncologists’ team of Apollo Cancer Centres in Madurai- Dr.P.K.Muthukumaraswamy, Dr.J.Devanand and Dr.T.Deenadayalan have explained to reporters at the press meet in Madurai today.
The press conference was addressed by Dr.Nikhil Tiwari, Chief Operating Officer of Apollo Hospitals Madurai Cluster (ROTN) along with Dr.K.Praveen Rajan, Joint Director of Medical Services, Apollo Hospitals-Madurai and the surgical oncologists team of Dr.T.K.Sarpparajan and Dr.K.Balu besides the expert gastro team of Dr.P.Rajesh Prabhu and Dr.C.Praveen Kumar who stressed that early detection with simple endoscopic screening helps in stomach cancer care treatment without chemotherapy etc.
