Coronavirus second wave: Most COVID+ patients experience these symptoms, according to doctors

Coronavirus symptoms: Most COVID+ patients experience these symptoms

Coronavirus cases in India have touched a new all-time high.

Cases across states are surging in high numbers, pushing the healthcare system to the verge of collapse. In a much worse shape than when the first wave of coronavirus hit us last year, the virus is also causing a plethora of symptoms, including some unusual ones.

02 Are new variants causing a surge in cases?

The emergence of the double mutant virus and several other infectious strains have only added to worries. As many experts have pointed out, the virus has become a lot stronger and is more infectious, which is causing a rise in cases. Some are also experiencing severe complications. Studies have established that the virus can quickly escape immune defences present along some vital organs, and unleash an attack in more impactful ways. Fever, which is not predominantly seen with ALL cases carrying the original strain is considered to be a more severely seen symptom in cases tested positive for the new mutation.

03 Do not ignore these symptoms

Therefore, at a time like this, what remains important is that we follow COVID appropriate behaviour, and most importantly, identify and isolate symptoms, as and when we come across them.

Again, while people suffering from COVID-19 may have different symptoms, these are the ones being most commonly seen in positive cases right now:

04 Sore throat

Having a prickly, itchy throat, which could also feel like you have experienced some swelling can be indicators of a sore throat. It is also one of the most commonly experienced symptoms in a COVID-19 infection, seen in over 52% of cases globally.

A sore throat could feel like your throat actually hurts, or gets irritated. Some even experience a mild burning or itching sensation, which can get worse when swallowing food or water. Sometimes, a hoarse or muzzled voice, developing white patches (only clinically seen) or swelling can happen.

05 Fatigue

Apart from a cough and sore throat, UK experts have observed that a lot of COVID patients now report excruciating weakness as one of the initial sign of infection.

While fatigue is a common sign in any viral infection, in COVID cases, it can be pretty hard to deal with too.

Since COVID, as a standalone infection can unload a host of symptoms, tiredness can often also be resultant of the same.

06 Muscle pain, body ache

The number of people who now report muscle aches as their primary COVID symptom has rapidly gone up. Excruciating muscle ache, joint pain, body ache could all be sneaky signs of battling the virus.

The prime reason for muscle aches and body aches to be present is myalgia, which is a result of the virus attacking important muscle fibres and tissue linings. Widespread inflammation can also result in joint pain, weakness and body pain during the course of the infection.

07 Chills with fever

Extreme chills or feeling unusually cold can be a sign of contracting the virus. In fact, chills and shaking accompanied by a low-grade fever could be a sign of infection in the early days.

08 Nausea and vomiting

Nausea and vomiting are now being looked as signs of infection present in the early days.

Diarrhea and loose stools can also be an indicator of moderate or severe infection.

09 Dizziness

In many cases, neurological symptoms of the infection can also spin symptoms like dizziness, fatigue, malaise and nausea.

What also makes the symptom super confusing is that it can be hard to ascertain whether or not your tiredness is due to COVID-19 or something else

10 Are there any other symptoms to watch out?

Certain other symptoms such as hearing loss, muscle pain, skin infections and distorted vision, which are otherwise scarcely observed may be more common with the newer strains.
