20-day detox: How to lose lockdown weight to look fit and fabulous on Diwali

The festive season has already begun. It's time to indulge in fun, family and food. But with little sleep, no exercise and an ocean of tempting delicacies on offer, it can be difficult to stay on track and keep our body in good shape. Moreover, the eight months lockdown has made all of us gain some extra kilos.

Having said that, Diwali is the time to dress up in our finest clothes and we definitely don't want the flab to play spoiltsport. News is we have got you covered. Here is a detox plan that will help you shed kilos and look your fitter self in the coming 20 days.

Morning brew

Start your day with a glass of warm water with lemon juice in it. This warm drink will help remove toxins from the body and will boost your metabolism. You can add a teaspoon of honey to make the drink taste even better.

Portion size matters

If you can't keep a track of how much you are eating, switch to smaller plates and do not go for a second serving. Using smaller plates will let you eat in measured portions, thereby preventing you from consuming extra calories.

Enjoy all the delicacies but remember do not cross the line with junk and sweet food.

Include salad in each meal

As thumb rule, include salads in all your meals, especially when you are eating oily foods. Having salads will keep you fuller for longer and help prevent indigestion later. And not to forget, fibre also helps you shed those extra kilos.

Include protein in your diet

We all know protein is the most important nutrient needed by our body when we are trying to lose weight. So, include some eggs, green leafy vegetables and fish in your daily diet to lose weight before Diwali.

Drinks lots of water

Staying hydrated is of utmost importance during the festive season.

Water helps remove toxins from the body and prevents overeating. A lot of times thirst is confused with hunger, which makes staying hydrated very important.

Try to drink at least 10-12 glasses of water every day to keep that belly-bloating away.

Have fruits

Fruits are a great source of all types of nutrients. Easy to digest and sweet at the same time, fruits are one of the best options for people who can't control their sweet cravings.

Avoid alcohol

Try to avoid alcohol before the festival begins. Alcohol leads to toxins in the body, which is not good for you. Too much alcohol can also lead to a beer belly - fat belly caused by drinking too much alcohol.

Stay active by setting simple goals

All the shopping and fun can make it difficult to follow the regular workout routine during the festive season. Thus, it's best to set some easy and realistic goals. You can go for regular walks after your meals. You can also take out 30 minutes to do some bodyweight exercises every morning. Do not completely abandon your workouts.

Choose baked over fried

When you have the option, choose baked food over fried food. Baked food has less fat, is healthier and tastes similar. If you are hosting a Diwali party, serve baked snacks so you also don't feel too tempted to try out unhealthy treats.

Do not skip your breakfast

After a late-night party, it's very common to skip breakfast. But it's important not to skip breakfast to keep your metabolism boosted. If you don't have much time, a glass of juice and oatmeal can be a perfect choice.

How to make healthier snacks at home

While making sweets at home, choose ingredients that are low in fat and sugar products.

While serving the guests, offer nuts and fresh fruits along with other delicacies.

Use low-fat milk instead of heavy cream.

Choose cooking methods like baking, steaming and grilling instead of frying.

Use sparkling water, infused water and fresh juice instead of sweetened beverages.
