Ingenious Uses for Ordinary Household Vinegar
Vinegar isn't just for adding into your recipe, it was more unbelievable uses.
1) Cleaning scissors with soap and water can chip the blades over time. Instead, use vinegar to clean the blade without doing any damage!
2) Do you have a dirty brick fireplace? Clean the bricks with vinegar to easily remove soot. Use a spray bottle or sponge to apply a 50/50 mixture of vinegar and water to the fireplace. After it sits for a few minutes giving the acid a chance to work, scrub and sponge the fireplace clean.
3) If your water bottle or coffee cup starts to smell bad, fill it with water and a good splash of vinegar. Let it sit for an hour or so, and it will be good as new.
4) Before you paint your nails, wipe them with vinegar to make the polish last longer. This removes any product buildup or natural oils on your nail beds that could create a barrier between the polish. Once your nails dry, apply basecoat.
5) Clean a dirty/finger-printed disc. Hold the DVD by the edges, wipe the disc with a cloth that has been dampened with vinegar. Wipe off with a dry cloth, and allow it to dry completely. Won’t do much for scratches, but it will remove any spots or residue without harming the disc.
6) Small scuffs on leather purses or shoes will come off with a little vinegar. Dip a cloth in white vinegar and smooth it along the scratch, laying the lifted leather down as you go. This causes the leather to swell and close up the leather, reducing the appearance of a scratch.
7) If your mugs are stained with coffee or tea, soak them in vinegar for a few hours. If the stains are really deep, you can scrub them with a paste of vinegar and kosher salt.
8) Vinegar will also loosen chewing gum or spilled wax stuck to car upholstery, rugs, and carpeting. Vinegar relaxes the fibers making it easier to remove the mess.
9)Wash your hands with vinegar after chopping onions or garlic to get rid of any lingering smells. Let air dry; the odor of vinegar will disappear after drying but if not, simply wash with soap and water.
10) Rinse paint brushes in vinegar to remove paint. If the paint has dried on the brush, use boiling vinegar. Afterward, wash them in hot, soapy water, then rinse and let dry—good as new.
11) Add a couple tablespoons of vinegar to the water when poaching eggs to keep the whites together.
12) Wipe off your windshield wiper blades with vinegar to keep them clean and working well. Plus, wiping down your car windows and windshield with a three-to-one vinegar-water mixture can keep them frost-free in the wintertime.
13) If your veggies have seen better days and are starting to look sad and wilted, toss them into a bowl with 2 cups of cold water and a tablespoon of vinegar and let them soak for an hour or so. The veggies will bounce back right back!
14) Make fresh cut flowers last longer…add 2 Tbsp white vinegar to the water in your vase and stir well. The vinegar helps inhibit the growth of bacteria and keeps your flowers fresher longer.
15) Kill weeds and crabgrass growing in sidewalks and driveways by spraying them with vinegar. A half-and-half solution of vinegar and water can even kill garden slugs if it’s sprayed directly onto them.
16) Keep dark color jeans from fading, by adding 1 cup of white vinegar in your washer (no detergent) and wash in cold water. They will not smell like vinegar, but the vinegar will “seal” the color and it will not bleed as easily during subsequent washings.
17) By adding 2-3 tbsp of vinegar in the washing machine often will prevent salt deposits from forming in the machine.
