Clear your blackheads with our home remedies

Blackheads are probably the most stubborn form of skin bumps. No matter how much you poke, pick or squeeze them, they always seem to make a comeback. These are generally found around the chin and nose area. The reason for their appearance are excess oil clogged in skin pores, dead skin cells or the presence of bacteria in the skin. Unwanted and unpleasant sight of blackheads can be heart-breaking. But the good news is that they are not a symptom of any underlying conditions. So, there is no need to panic at their appearance. While there are all sorts of creams, peels and masks available in the market, specifically made for treating blackheads, they don’t always seem to work. These products also do not cater to different types of skin. So, instead of this, you can try some of our home remedies.

Corn-starch and vinegar: Using a combination of corn-starch and vinegar for two to three weeks can effectively treat blackheads. Corn-starch absorbs the clogged-up oil from the skin while vinegar helps reduce the discoloration of skin patches. Just take one teaspoon of corn-starch, add it to one cup of vinegar and stir it until it takes the form of a thick paste. Apply this paste on the affected area and leave it for 20-30 minutes. Rinse it off with warm water or ice.

Honey: Honey helps remove blackheads formed due to excess oil. It also contributes in re-moisturising the skin. Apply raw honey directly over the area with blackheads and leave it for 20 minutes. Do this daily for at least 3 weeks. It will not only remove blackheads but also soothe the skin.

Lemon juice: Lemon juice is a natural astringent. It helps in removing blackheads, which are caused due to accumulation of dead skin cells. It is advised that you mix a little olive oil in the juice if you have dry skin. Apply lemon juice over the blackhead area with a cotton ball and leave it overnight. Clean it with warm water in the morning. Repeat this exercise for a week for best results.

Baking soda: A scrub with baking soda and water is probably the easiest way to get rid of blackheads. Baking soda works differently. It doesn’t absorb oil or remove dead skin cells.Instead, it chokes the blackhead and brightens the skin. Baking soda, also known as bicarbonate of soda, is a chemical compound. When it is directly applied over the skin, it reacts with blackheads and kills any bacteria that may be causing this.
