Back pain for hubby- new treatment
For more than 5 months hubby has been having back pain. Earlier, it was mild, once he used to lie down the pain used to disappear. Then I had a suspicion if due to his falls, if he had a hairline fracture somewhere. Luckily no fracture, this was a young orthopedic than my surgeon who was very experienced and sadly he is no more, as when he did my surgery itself, he was in his 70s.
This young surgeon wanted to rule out any knee problem as hubby told him his legs buckle, hence he falls down. Luckily nothing wrong with the knees. His spine is slightly curving. He wanted him to have an MRI done, due to phobia for closed place first he refused, then when his pain was worsening, he agreed. It showed that he has problems in L4-L5 and in his tail bone. So, we\re worried if he was going to suggest any surgery, as he had double bypass surgery for his heart.
Luckily, the treatment was such that he had to lie on his stomach, with a monitor / new type of scanner to show them the various points in spine, surgeon with an interventionist, gave injections in different places to numb the sensory nerves ! Hubby was fully conscious, the whole procedure lasted for less than 45 minutes. It was done by giving local anesthesia. When the surgeon asked him if he can see the scanner, hubby said, it would have clearer if it was in colour !
Yesterday, soon after the procedure, as his back was still numb, he said no pain, slowly as hours progressed, he started complaining of pain, but didn't want pain killer nor hot massage. But then this morning, he said the pain was comparatively less on getting up, as earlier, soon after getting up from bed itself, the pain was awful. The surgeon said, it varies from person to person, some feel total relief soon after the procedure, some make take days, so till then walking is limited to the bar essentials, no exertion till we see the surgeon after 3 weeks.
Both of us need lumbar belt, at least in one thing, we agree, wearing belt !
So, I was with hubby in the hospital from yesterday morning till this afternoon when he got discharged. As, I'm the one, who had 13 surgeries, when hubby used to run around to pay, now, it is my turn to repay back all his services !
I used my time in the hospital to finish 2 pairs of breast prosthetic and almost finishing 1 more now. Hence, I'ld not post any post yesterday.
