Unhealthy habits to avoid after eating food
Knowingly or unknowingly we all have some bad food habits, which harms us from imbibing all the nutrients from the food we've eaten. There are certain unhealthy habits which when done immediately after
eating food will do the body more harm than good.
Some of these include:
1.Lying down after a meal: After a good, satisfying meal, taking a nap would feel like the best thing to do. But refrain yourself. Sleeping will prevent your body from digesting your food and using up the calories you have taken in. You will feel bloated and develop digestive track problem.
2. Taking a shower: After piping hot meal, the idea of a hot shower may seem tempting. The bath tub may also seem inviting. But stay away. Taking a bath increasing the blood flow to the hands or legs and decreases the flow to the abdomen. It also leads to a drop in body’s temperature which hampers the digestion process.
3. Drinking tea after a meal: Many of us have the habit of drinking tea after a meal. Many argue that black tea is better since milk in the tea is the real culprit. Truth is, the tannic acid in tea leaves prevents the proper absorption of protein and iron from the food which may pose serious health risks in the long run.
4. Avoid fruits after a meal-You eat a fruit instead of a sugar-loaded dessert to satiate your craving for something sweet and feel happy about making a healthy choice. But it is not an ideal way to end a meal. The fibre in fruit will get stuck with other foods and take long to digest. This may cause discomfort in the stomach and even flatulence. Fruits should be eaten before meals or at least an hour after a meal.
5. Smoking: Studies suggest that smoking post a meal becomes all the more dangerous for your body. One cigarette after you have eaten is as bad as 10.
6. Brushing your teeth: It is a good habit before bedtime but right after a meal isn’t a great idea. Brushing after eating will remove the enamel layer on the teeth, leaving your teeth prone to damage. You should wait for at least 30 minutes to 1 hours post meal before scrubbing away.
7. Driving: After eating, more blood flows into the digestive tract while the brain gets lesser amount thus affecting your ability to concentrate. Driving needs you to focus and the inability to do that post a satiating meal can be dangerous. So do not immediately hit the road post you have eaten. Wait for at least 30 minutes to 1 hour.
