NUTRITION LOADED YOGHURT

Yoghurt we all know is a good probiotic. In some countries, every meal should include yoghurt to make it complete. For vegetarians, milk protein is a must in every meal to improve one's protein in their diet. It is easy to digest and can be used in various forms- plain, adding fruits and nuts- makes a nice smoothie to make a healthy start for the day, or to finish the meal with a nice glass of lassi- sweet or salty, as it quenches the thirst too on a hot day.

1) Rich in nutrients-Yogurt is rich in vitamins, with a single serving containing a significant amount of potassium, phosphorous, riboflavin , iodine, zinc, Vitamins B5and B 12. While the vitamin content depends on the type of yogurt being consumed and the way it was produced, yogurt has been found to share a majority of the vitamins found in milk. Yogurt made from whole milk also provides fat soluble vitamins like vitamin A, which is important for normal eye function, and vitamin E, which is important to the body's immune system.

2) Prevents osteoporosis- Regular consumption of yoghurt, helps to improve the calcium levels in the body, as it is a good source of Vitamin D too. It helps to make our bones strong.

3) Aids weight loss- A study has found a correlation between the loss of belly fat and an added 18 ounces of yogurt to a person's daily diet. According to a nutritionist who led the study, the calcium found in yogurt induces weight loss by triggering fat cells to create less cortisol, a hormone related to the accumulation of belly fat. In other words, the calcium intake from yogurt helps the body to burn body fat rather than store it.

4) Lowers blood pressure. Yoghurt helps in reducing blood pressure as it as it is rich in potassium, and potassium is known to lessen the effect sodium has on your body. This by-product of milk is also low in dairy-fat, as normally cream is removed from milk to make yoghurt at home.

5) Probiotics- Fermented products, like yoghurt, with active and live cultures contain probiotics, which are living microorganisms that are beneficial to the body. Probiotics found in yogurt are especially beneficial to the body's digestive tract and can also help strengthen the immune system.

6)Aids Muscle Recovery- The amount of protein found in yoghurt makes it a great snack after a hard workout, especially due to its high protein content. Protein helps provide the amino acids necessary for muscles to repair themselves. The carbohydrates found in yoghurt also helps to replace the muscles' energy stores that have been depleted after strenuous exercise.

7)It decreases chances of infections in the vagina. Regular consumption of yoghurt reduces chances of vaginal infections as it reduces the pH levels in the vagina.

8)  Improves brain functioning. Yoghurt contains vitamin B12 that helps in providing energy and improving the functioning of the brain.
