Do you have skin marks and dark patches?
Pigmentation, which means hypercolour or excessive pigment deposit on the skin that can either cause an even tan or darker looking skin, patchy or blotchy skin, or distinct dark patches that disrupt the even look of the skin, is a huge cause for worry.
Cases of those suffering from it are on the rise today, reveals skin expert Dr Jamuna Pai. "Pigmentation in younger women is usually associated with various hormonal changes that they go through," she says.
Right diet matters
There is a link between what we eat and skin pigmention, says fitness consultant and nutritionist Suman Agarwal. According to Suman, "Pigmentation is caused primarily due to obesity, insulin resistance, polycystic ovarian syndrome, and metabolic syndrome. All these health issues exist because of only one reason - high carb, high fat, and very low protein diet. To cure or reduce this problem, one must keep in mind that losing weight is important if one is overweight. The diet should be balanced with protein and carbs for all three major meals that is breakfast, lunch and dinner. I also recommend that one should visit an endocrinologist as well as a nutritionist."
