Why do we often feel cold after exercising

Read on to know more!

Feeling cold after a workout session during winters is understandable. But experiencing the same in summers is quite confusing. There are a lot of people who experience chills after an intense workout routine and often wonder why this happens.

First of all, chills have nothing to do with the outside temperature or the weather. It all happens because of changes taking place inside the body. There could be a few possible causes behind this. Here are 5 reasons why most people feel cold after exercising.

You are not cooling down properly

Warming-up and cooling down are two important steps everyone must do during their workout routine. While exercising, our body temperature spikes. Cooling down helps your body to reduce your body temperature slowly and regulate your blood flow. Drastic reduction in body temperature often makes a person feel cold after the workout session and increases the risk of injury.

Dehydration

Water is essential to regulate body temperature. If you do not drink sufficient amount of water after your workout routine, you might have to deal with sudden chills afterwards. You might also experience cramps, dizziness and nausea. Drink sufficient amounts of water before your workout. Also, do not forget to replenish your water loss due to sweating after exercising.

Wear proper clothes

In winter, we have a habit of layering to prevent ourselves from the cold weather. This helps us to maintain our body's core temperature when we stop exercising. But in summers, we hardly pay attention to this. Wearing the right clothes in summer is equally crucial. Cotton clothes can easily soak the sweat and will keep you warm. Always prefer cotton over other fabric.

Low blood sugar level

Drop in the blood sugar level after the workout session can make you feel cold. To avoid this, fuel yourself properly before the workout. While exercising our blood sugar level decreases and we start feeling cold. Eat complex carbs and protein-rich foods before exercising to stay energetic for a longer time.

Lack of rest

Chills are also common when you are overtraining or not taking rest between your workout session. In both the cases, your muscles will be tired and strained after a workout and you feel unwell.
