Till now, this notion whether womb implant can bring a lifeline to women across the world has been surrounded by speculations. But, a recently conducted surgery at Stockholm has raised the hope for millions of women across the globe.
The researchers have come up with the news that a womb transplant can be an option for women who were born without a uterus or who have undergone hysterectomy. Many top fertility centres as well as the Medical Council of India has permitted the experts to perform the procedure but a last nod from the organ transplant authority is what they are waiting for.
In a womb transplant, doctors implant the uterus harvested from either a cadaver or living donor into a patient who does not have a functional womb. However, most of the transplants conducted so far have used organs from living donors only.
Experts say that this process not only removes the organ but the entire uterine system so it can take a toll on the recipient. Other alternatives like surrogacy and adoption also exist for those who want children.
